Disappointed Montana citizens are making their voices heard across the State regarding Governor Greg Gianforte’s recent decision to end Montana FWP’s 2020 Bison Management Plan.
The 2020 Bison Management plan was the culmination of over a decade of effort by legislators, biologists, federal and state agencies, ranchers, conservationists; Tribal Nations to advance the restoration of bison in Montana.
“Public concern is high following Governor Greg Gianforte’s decision to rescind Montana FWP’s 2020 Bison Management Plan, which advocates saw as a collaborative, science-backed approach for restoration.Critics argue the move prioritizes agricultural interests over conservation and halts progress on restoring wild bison. The 2020 plan, which aimed to manage bison as wildlife, was replaced after a settlement with critics, stalling bison restoration on public lands for a 10-year “cooling off” period.“
