Since release of the Helena National Forest plan in 1986, HHAA has been involved in the forest planning process.

However, opportunities for the average hunter, or person, to have a say in management of their public lands as it may affect wildlife habitats, is in jeopardy because Experts Say The Magna Carta of American Environmental Law is Under Siege.

From the perspective of wildlife policy, the 1986 Forest Plan was credible in that mandatory standards were to be followed and those standards were based on peer reviewed science. Thirty-four years later a revised plan did not bode well for wildlife. The 2021 plan has NO standards for wildlife. Rather, discretionary guidelines now exist that will be difficult to enforce. Helena Hunters and Anglers will be monitoring the efficacy of the 2021 Forest Plan.
