Doug Powell

Board Member

Passion is protecting public wildlands for future generations to enjoy.  Especially appreciating what our past conservationist leaders have done to hang on to the landscape we now enjoy for hunting and fishing.

With a background as a wildlife researcher and fire/wildlife pilot for both the state of Montana and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Doug has worked with some of the great conservationists across the country, who have preserved our landscapes and the wildlife habitats they hold.  Throughout the years, he has had the opportunity to listen, and discuss different points of view with highly-experienced wildlife biologists and fire aviation air operation specialists on the effects of management decisions upon our public wildlands.

Education; BA in Environmental Studies/Biology from Carroll College 2010

Past titles;  Wildlife Researcher, District Manager for National Wildlife Refuges in Central Montana, Regional Aviation Manager for US Fish and Wildlife Service.   Chair for the Rocky Mountain Coordination Center Aviation Committee. Currently aircraft pilot for Montana DNRC Fire Aviation Unit.

Rick Henry

Board Member

Rick Henry has been teaching biology and environmental science at Helena College since 2011. His professional research has included corridor connectivity, and biodiversity samplings within isolated native grassland plots.  In his less formal interactions with the backroads and ecosystems of Montana, he chases upland birds with his dogs, harvests an ungulate occasionally, and some say he spends too much time with a fly rod in his hands. Rick has a divided house, in that one of his children attends Montana State University, while the other attends the University of Montana. Their activities over the years, from wrestling to 4H and skiing to quiz bowls, have kept him busy and connected to the local communities. In addition to education and outside adventures, Rick also works on construction sites during the warmer months, remodeling houses, and builds artwork mountainscapes from scrap lumber. In a nutshell, this board member has a healthy obsession with public lands, conservation biology, and working with his hands to build things.
